20 Small Changes That Can Make a Big Difference

There’s always room for improvement. No one’s life is perfect. We could all do with a little change, a pick me up, a shift in energies. And it doesn’t mean you need to have a massive overhaul in your life. You’d be surprised at how little changes can make a big difference.

Listed here, we have 20 lifestyle changes you can do try to adopt to improve your health, habits and overall wellness. It can be the little things that really count.  

Improving Your Eating Habits

Drink More Water.

Most people do not drink enough fluid – which is so important as the human body is made up of 60% water!  

Drink Herbal Tea

We live in a world where many of us can’t get through the day without at coffee (or two), or even a cup of tea for our caffeine fix. How about exchanging the caffeine for something a more soothing herbal tea. It’s also another way to increase your fluids.

Don’t Skip Breakfast

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, with juggling work and family, many people skip breakfast in an attempt to save time or calories. But that can actually do more damage than good.

More Greens Please

Most people struggle to eat enough green veggies in a day. The general rule is the darker the green, the better it is for you. Try sneak something into your existing routine – maybe spinach in your smoothie or kale in your salad.

Snack for you Hair and Nails

Instead of grabbing something salty or sugary, try to snack on berries and nuts instead. Full of good oils, nutrients and proteins.

Have more Omega-3

What’s Omega-3? It’s the good fat from fish and nuts that help improve mood and have been shown to help with depression and anxiety. If you’re not too keen on eating more fish, try some Omega-3 capsules from your local pharmacy.

Don’t go Shopping While Hungry.

We eat with our eyes. When you’re hungry, everything at the supermarket seems like a good idea to buy. Be logical, you’re more likely to make good food choices when you aren’t hungry and surrounding by food.

Be Snack Ready

Some of our biggest snack mistakes can happen when we’re not prepared. If you’ve got nothing on you, you’re more likely to get that chocolate bar or packet of chip for the vending machine or store near by. Have healthy nibbles with you at work or on the go.

Eat Slowly

We tend to eat a lot more if we’re shovelling food down very quickly. Eat slower and savour the food. You might  find you enjoy your meal more (and won’t feel so bloated afterwards)

Spoil Yourself (But Only Sometimes)

While it’s important to eat healthy, you shouldn’t completely deny yourself of the things you enjoy, otherwise it will make you really hate being healthy. Treat yourself to a cup of coffee or a slice of cake at your favour cafe.

Improving Your Physical Habits

Early to Rise

Waking up 10-15 mins earlier in the morning can make a difference to your day. You may find you won’t be rushing as much at the start of your day, you may even find some time to do an extra chore or go for a small walk.

Get Some Distance

We spend far too much time sitting at a desk or table – whether it is to eat, study or work. Make sure you step away from your desk at lease once every hour. Have a stretch, walk to the kitchen and get yourself a glass of water.

Take the Stairs

You can cleverly adding small bursts of exercise in the day by taking the stair instead of the lift, or by parking a little further from the door so you have to walk a little further. Don’t think about how much time it takes, but how much more exercise you’re doing.  

Be One With Nature

Many people will find that they don’t spend enough time outside. Try going for long walks, a light jog, or even sitting in a park. It’s not just about the exercise, by also getting some fresh air and some sun.

Laugh More

You can’t have a bad time if you’re laughing. Find a way to smile and laugh more – watch a funny movie, catch up with friends, reminisce over good times with your family. Having a good laugh can keep you happy for quite some time, and can make turn a bad day right around.

Listen More

Do you ever take time to just stop and listen to the things around you? It may be the things people tell you, feedback from your boss, the sound of the traffic or the birds early in the morning. You’ll find the more you listen, the more present you are.  

Dance More

Dancing is one of the easiest and funnest forms of exercise. And you don’t even need to sign up for a class for it. You can have a girls night where you go out dancing, or even a solo dance-party alone in your house in your pyjamas. You can dance just about anywhere.

Sleep More

Ideally, you should be getting around 7-8 hours sleep. Yet, most people will find that they aren’t getting enough sleep. Being well rested at night can make a world of difference for you during the day. You may find you even eat better and have more energy with a good night sleep.

Slow Down

With the how fast life can be when you’re juggling multiple things – school, work, kids, parents, friends, your partner, you can often miss the really special things around you. Slow down, and be present in the moment. That way you’ll learn to appreciate the things around you.

Take Care of Yourself

You only have one life and one body to live it in. Remember to take care of yourself. Treat yourself to a break, relax and do things you enjoy. If you keep yourself happy and healthy, you’ll find you can do so much more.
