Brett Holmes is the General Secretary of the New South Wales Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA) and Branch Secretary of the ANMF NSW Branch – which represents the industrial and professional interests of nearly 65,000 nurses, midwives and assistants in nursing in New South Wales as well as in forums at state, national and international level.
Brett is a graduate of the Harvard Trade Union Progam; and, has been a part of the nursing profession all of his working life.
Brett has been General Secretary of the NSWNMA since 2002 – commencing in 1990 as an Organiser, progressing through the Association to Organiser Manager then election as Assistant General Secretary and subsequent election to General Secretary. He sits on a number of boards and committees, including ACTU Executive, Unions NSW Executive, Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation Federal Executive and Federal Council, the NSWNMA Council and various committees of the Council.
Brett is a strong advocate of the advancement and recognition of nursing and midwifery as a profession. Under his leadership, the professional and industrial profile of nurses and midwives at a state, national and international level has been vastly elevated.
