Just as Victorians shared a statewide sigh of relief as the five-day ‘circuit breaker’ lockdown was lifted yesterday, a man from an aged care facility has been admitted to hospital with a weak positive result for coronavirus.
The case, which remains under investigation, wasn’t added to Wednesday’s daily total of new cases, as the man had tested negative twice before the third test came back with the weak positive.
In an update posted on the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services website, it was revealed that the man had presented to hospital from an aged care facility in Reservoir.
“The case is being re-tested today and will be considered by members of the expert review panel,” says the update.
“Out of an abundance of caution while awaiting the repeat test, the aged care facility has been kept safe and all staff and residents were tested yesterday evening.”
According to the health department, the man was a positive case back in August last year, and it is believed that this weak positive result is due to “persistent shedding from a previous infection.”
The case is not believed to be linked to the Holiday Inn outbreak, which currently stands at 19 cases.
The state government’s decision to lift the five-day lockdown restrictions overnight was due to Victoria’s recording of a zero infection day, and the compliance of Victorian residents to the new restrictions.
As of this morning, there are 25 active cases in Victoria.
