At the remarkable age of 94, Nancye Peachey continues to achieve personal milestones and make every moment count. A beloved resident of Moran Sylvania, Nancye has unveiled her latest exhibition at Moran Gallery Sylvania, showcasing a collection inspired by her passions.

Initially reluctant to exhibit her artwork, Nancye is now looking forward to sharing anecdotes with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, while forging new memories alongside fellow residents.

“The community at Moran Sylvania have been eagerly awaiting the opening of this special exhibition at  Moran Gallery, marking the revitalisation of the Gallery program in collaboration with Hazelhurst Arts  Centre.

The knowledge that the exhibition features the work of one of their own community members adds an extra layer of significance for our residents and staff” said Moran Sylvania General Manager  Lorraine Kelly.

Nancye’s journey is a testament to the fact that you are never too old to follow your passion.  Reminiscing about her artistic beginnings later in life at age 56, Nancye recalls answering an advertisement for art classes in Gymea. Armed with paintbrushes and an easel she would catch the train from her home in Woolooware to attend the classes.

She loved the peace and solitude of painting and the relaxation it brought her. She soon developed her own style, working with oil paints and composing scenes which often drew on memories of gardens, landscapes and animals she had encountered during her travels and in daily life.

Nancye’s participation in local exhibitions and competitions, where she occasionally sold her artworks, brought her great pride. A standout moment was her Highly Commended recognition at the Garden Gates, an achievement she cherishes despite narrowly missing the top prize.
