Man arrested and charged following the rape of 90-year-old aged care resident

The St Albans Park man was arrested early yesterday and charged with rape, aggravated burglary, recklessly causing serious injury, common law assault and theft.

Police were inundated with information after the assault of the elderly woman at the Tannoch Brae Aged Care home at 4.45 am on Sunday morning.

Detectives from the sexual crimes squad thanked the public for their support after the police appealed for help to identify and locate the attacker.

“I understand how much concern an incident like this causes in the community, so being able to make an arrest in just over 24 hours is reassuring,” said sexual crime squad Detective Acting Inspector Mark Burnett.

“Our thoughts are with the victim and her family at this time, and they will be offered a range of support services.”
