Nurse charged with rape at Queensland Hospital

A Queensland Health nurse has been suspended from his role after being charged with the alleged rape of a woman at Logan Hospital in May 2025.

Dylan Paul Shanks, a 28-year-old married father from Logan Village, faces one count of rape, with the case currently before the courts.

Shanks, who has been a registered nurse since February 2020 after completing his nursing degree at Griffith University in 2019, was suspended by the Queensland Health Ombudsman on 5 August 2025.

The suspension prohibits him from practising as a nurse for its duration, pending further action by the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal or a revocation by the Health Ombudsman.

The incident, which allegedly occurred at Logan Hospital, prompted swift action from hospital authorities.

Anne Coccetti, Executive Director of Logan and Beaudesert Health Service, confirmed the employee was immediately suspended, and the matter was referred to the Office of the Health Ombudsman, the Metro South Health Ethical Standards Unit, and the Crime and Corruption Commission. Queensland Police were also notified and are assisting with the investigation.

In a statement, Ms Coccetti expressed regret for the distress caused, stating, “We offer our unreserved apology for the distress caused by this incident. We hold our staff to the highest standards, and this behaviour will not be tolerated.

She added that Logan Hospital remains committed to ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all patients and staff.

The case was briefly mentioned in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on 13 August 2025, where it was noted that a partial brief of evidence had been provided to Shanks’ legal team at Robertson O’Gorman Solicitors. Shanks, who is currently on bail, was not required to appear in court. The matter is scheduled to return to court for mention on 24 September 2025.

Queensland Police have declined to comment, citing the ongoing court proceedings. Support was provided to the victim by hospital staff, who are cooperating fully with the investigations.

Shanks’ LinkedIn profile highlights his passion for paediatric nursing and a mission to “put a smile on children’s faces.”
