Police hunt suspect who violently carjacked and kidnapped elderly woman

Police are searching for a woman who allegedly kidnapped an 80-year-old woman during a violent carjacking in the Victorian suburb of St Kilda earlier this month.

The terrifying incident occurred on July 6 at around 1:40 pm when an unknown woman climbed into the victim’s car as she was driving.

Upon entering the car, police allege that the suspect grabbed the elderly woman by the hair and held a sharp carving tool to her throat before demanding that she be driven to the airport in Tullamarine.

The ordeal came to an end on Carlisle Street, St Kilda when the suspect decided to leave the vehicle on foot. Although still in shock from the horrifying encounter, the 80-year-old woman drove straight home and informed the police about the incident.

While continuing her journey on foot, the suspect was sighted on numerous CCTV cameras in the area.

In an attempt to identify the suspect, the Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit have released the CCTV footage of the woman who is believed to be responsible for the alleged kidnapping and aggravated carjacking.

In one of the CCTV videos, the suspect can be seen walking down the street before randomly stopping to grab a wheelie bin and throwing it to the ground.

The suspect was seen wearing a white, long-sleeved shirt with a black jacket wrapped around her shoulders, off-white coloured pants, a multicoloured backpack and black shoes.

Police are asking members of the public with any information that could help identify the suspect to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
