83 year old woman has teeth knocked out in home invasion

An 83 year old woman has had three teeth knocked out in a violent burglary when a man allegedly attacked her for cigarettes.

According to police, the man allegedly broke into the woman’s Box Hill South home in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs just after 5pm yesterday evening.

Punching the woman at least twice in the face, the attacker dislodged three of her teeth, before stealing two cartons of cigarettes and fleeing the home.

Sergeant Madeline Gillard of Victoria Police said the 30 year old Ferntree Gully man was later arrested in Burwood after he was identified as a suspect in the violent home invasion.

After being assessed at hospital, the man was charged with aggravated burglary and intentionally causing injury, and remanded overnight and faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
