Resthaven’s caring ‘Knit & Natter’ and ‘Hobbies & Craft’ groups have shown that teamwork truly makes the dream work, as they have brought their dreams to life to support others in need.

Aged between 73 and 96, the avid knitters and crafters have made 12 blankets which have been donated to the Catherine House.

Catherine House offers crisis, longer-term accommodation and support services for adult women experiencing homelessness in South Australia. They are the State’s only dedicated women’s homelessness service in the State.

On average, 54 women are provided with safe and secure accommodation each day, while 120 women access their Intake Service (crisis accommodation), Women’s Centre or receive outreach support each week.

Through a recovery-oriented focus, Catherine House offers women a safe, supportive environment with opportunities to achieve improved personal and economic wellbeing.

“I am so proud of the work our residents have done, with the aim of helping others,” Sylvia Ortiz, Resthaven Mitcham, Lifestyle Coordinator said.

“Catherine House is very appreciative of the donation and remarked on how beautifully made the blankets are.”

Each member created their own squares that were then joined together to make the blankets, a symbolic way of showing how their teamwork and efforts will forever join them to the women they help at Catherine House.

Catherine House will give most of the blankets to women as they move into more secure housing, while others will be auctioned off to raise additional funds.

“The residents of Resthaven Mitcham are very happy to know that their blankets are going to a good cause and will help those in need,” Ms Ortiz added.

Thank you to the ladies of Resthaven Mitcham for their thoughtful, kind donation.
