A new age for aged care: Why coming together as a united sector is more important now than ever

The LIVE Summit program will highlight some of the fundamental changes that need to occur to improve the care of older Australians, including panel session discussions on Workforce, Human Rights, Ageism and Housing in the new age for aged care.

The findings of the Royal Commission have highlighted the need for change, particularly in the aged care workforce, identifying the critical need for aged care workers to be well trained, well paid and committed to their jobs.

In addition to the in-depth panel sessions, the ACSA Summit will also feature keynote presentations from:

  • Sam Mostyn, who will share with delegates her experience on leadership and governance;
  • Dr John Hewson, who will speak on funding issues that relate to the aged care sector;
  • Lynelle Briggs AO, former Aged Care Royal Commissioner who will share her perspectives on the Government’s response to the Royal Commission; and
  • Kurt Fearnley AO, who will provide delegates with a presentation on inclusive, culturally safe and quality aged care.

Networking opportunities with other delegates and valued supporters of the Summit will also be available during the week, and although the connection will be online, the importance and relevance of coming together as a united sector is more important now than ever.

  1. Could someone tell me why it is so difficult to cash in holidays when you have hundreds of holiday hrs that the company owe you and to which they themselves advocate? Apparently when you fill in the form I was told to write something that sounds important for the reason I am cashing in. Why would I need a dramatic reason? Why is it their business to know my personal reasons? With the wages they pay you would think THAT in itself would be a good enough reason. My son works at Woolies and they offer wonderful flexibility with cash ins and if you don’t want to take sick days they offer holiday leave for one day here or two days there over the phone. I feel this aged care system is not looking after their staff in so many ways.
