Aged care worker, Chris Grady, was recently awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for his exceptional service to aged welfare which is a testament to his passionate commitment to the industry and the impact he has made on the lives of residents.

Chris, Club Service Manager at Regis East Malvern, is thrilled that all his hard work is paying off and hopes his efforts can inspire younger generations to make a difference in the aged care industry.

“This recognition represents the culmination of my life’s work and the fulfilment I find in serving others,” Chris said.

Joining Regis in 2011 as the Lifestyle Coordinator for Regis Armadale in Victoria, Chris’ skills and abilities were noticed when he received the 2016 Lifestyle and Leisure Award and the 2017 National Award for Outstanding Facility Services. After a two-year break away from the company, Chris was rehired into his current position as Club Service Manager which sees him take on admin-like duties and tend to the diverse needs of residents.

Chris’ passion for creating a positive and engaging environment drew him to the aged care sector and he loves the important work he does for residents, describing them as inspirational people with “so much to offer”.

“The wisdom, experiences, and resilience of the elderly residents continually motivate and enrich my life.”

Considering a career in aged care? Chris has some advice: “Be prepared to work hard and know that you are making a difference on a daily basis.”

“The rewarding nature of the work requires dedication, compassion, and a genuine desire to

positively impact the lives of others.”

Outside of work, Chris loves spending time with his family and friends, leisurely walks with his beloved whippets and savouring life’s pleasures.
