Campbell Place In Glen Waverley – Australian Unity – Independent Review

Are you looking for Aged Care in Glen Waverley? Maybe this is the one for you.

I was invited to Campbell Place In Glen Waverley, operated by Australia Unity for their soft opening the other week and I thought I’d share my experience for those looking for care in this area. The facility in total has 102 beds and 54 independent living apartments. They will simultaneously welcome new residents from 27th March 2017

It was once Former site of Wahroonga Friendship Village and named after Murray Campbell who was with Australian Unity for 50 years. Murray commenced at AU as Head Accountant in the 1960’s and worked his way up to CEO and Managing Director, retiring 2 years ago.

At the end of March, the facility had a soft opening with 17 senior management and guests spending the night at the facility, trialling everything from the temperature and water pressure in showers, televisions and lighting, to having dinner and breakfast and participating in activities.

The U model of care is Better Together, practicing CDC, encouraging independence and enablement by ‘doing with’ not ‘doing for’.

This aged care facility will consist of small houses consisting of 8 or 9 residents and there will be 2 memory support units.

For the first time we will see accommodation in all but 4 rooms consisting of a hospital high/low double bed as standard. Something that residents have always wanted but not been available in Australia until now.

The lifestyle program will encourage both resident and staff participation.  As part of the lifestyle they will be offering food focus groups and resident cooking workshops. There will be integration between the residential and the independent living residents.

There are a few suites available and accommodation for couples is easily arranged. Other facilities available are an onsite café, theatre, hair salon and resident laundry for those that wish to do some washing independently.

I felt that the building has a warm modern feel without being to ostentatious. The local RSL, train and shopping centre are also within easy walking distance.

Vive la difference – between French and English (speaking) stereotypes of older women, that is

I think that there would be general agreement that Sean Connery was a man of great sex appeal, right through his long career. Constant vocalisation and unmet needs: an expert’s opinion

Last month, we published a sensitive question that one of our readers had put to us. HelloCare reader Bruce was concerned that at his wife’s nursing home, the constant vocalisation of one resident was disturbing and upsetting other residents. Bruce posed a challenging question that “will no doubt get me some abuse”, he wrote. His... Read More
