An elderly woman has been knocked to the ground in a confronting alleged assault involving a pram in the CBD of Maryborough, with police still searching for the victim days after the incident.
CCTV footage captured the moment the woman, who has not yet been identified, was struck from behind while walking along Adelaide Street about 9.25am on Monday. The impact sent her falling heavily onto the footpath outside a row of shops.
Police allege the woman pushing the pram deliberately made contact, knocking the elderly pedestrian off her feet in what has been described as a violent act of public nuisance.
The footage shows the pram colliding with the woman’s side without warning. She appears unable to brace for the impact and falls directly onto the concrete, while the woman with the pram continues moving.
A 42 year old woman has since been charged with violent public nuisance and is scheduled to appear before the Maryborough Magistrates Court.
Despite the charge, a key part of the case remains unresolved. Police have issued a public appeal for the elderly victim to come forward, as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities say identifying and speaking with the woman is critical to understanding the full extent of what occurred, including any injuries she may have sustained.
The incident has sparked concern in the local community, with the apparent lack of warning or provocation raising questions about safety in public spaces, particularly for older Australians.
