Four young men push elderly woman on a broken scooter home in the pouring rain

The four men, all aged in their early 20s, had just finished work at a local theme park when they noticed an elderly woman with a malfunctioning mobility scooter got stuck in the pouring rain at an intersection.

“We were tired, dirty and wanted to get back to the hotel, but knew without a doubt that regardless of our long day, it certainly wasn’t worse than the day this lady was having,” one of the men told local reporters.

Despite the downpour, three of the men positioned themselves behind the scooter and pushed the elderly woman in the direction of her retirement home, while the fourth man jogged alongside the scooter holding an umbrella to prevent her from getting wet.

The men pushed the elderly woman and her scooter over one kilometre before arriving safely at the Florida Independent Community retirement village where she lives.

Katty Castro, a public relations representative at the home, snapped the heartwarming pictures and shared her thoughts with local news reporters.

“Since this is a very quiet neighbourhood, I was surprised to hear a commotion, laughs and four gentlemen pushing one of my lady residents under a heavy storm in Florida,” Castro told Fox News

Castro added, “Those scooters are heavy … add the resident’s weight, her groceries and collapsing tires, the sum is a whole workout. But I am proud of their sacrifice.”

Although this act of kindness has been getting a lot of attention in recent days, the young men simply feel that it is part of their duty to assist anyone in need when the opportunity to do so arises.

“We just wanted her to get home safely,” one of the men explained. “We never expected recognition, just helping a fellow member of our community.”

“Holding a door, smiling, picking up someone’s spilled groceries, reaching for an item on the top shelf in the grocery store and, yes, helping someone whose electric wheelchair broke down in the rain are things almost anyone can do.”
