Lonely grandpa calls adult granddaughter for a sleepover because he missed her

A 29-year-old woman who filmed herself sleeping over at her grandfather’s house to keep him company is inspiring people all over the world to reconnect with their elderly relatives.

Social media influencer Megan Elizabeth grew up across the road from her beloved grandparents and revealed that she spent time living with them when she was younger.

Sadly, the death of her grandmother from Alzheimer’s three years ago has left Megan’s grandfather feeling very lonely. Megan also revealed that her grandfather is battling an illness of his own and “doesn’t have much time left”.

Recently, Megan received a heartfelt text from her grandfather asking if she would like to have a sleepover at the house so that the pair could ‘watch a mystery show’ on TV together.

The text exchange with her grandfather read:

“Hi Megan it’s grandpa, Would you like to come over and have a sleepover? I haven’t been feeling well and miss you. We can order food and watch a mystery show. Love, grandpa.”

“Yes! I’ll be over around 7!” Megan replied. “Would you like me to get you something from the store or anything for dinner?”

“Could you pick up applesauce?” the grandfather said. “The cinnamon kind. And if you go somewhere with mash potatoes, I would like that because I have no teeth and can only eat soft things. Ha. Love you, Grandpa.”

“Okay! I will see you soon,” she answered.

The pair enjoyed their food, which included a strawberry ice cream, as they watched an old black and white movie on television.

With Megan needing a good night’s rest for work in the morning, she was shocked to find that her grandfather had made her bed in the same manner as he did when she was a little girl. He also left her a flashlight so that she wouldn’t be “scared of the dark”.

“Staying here brings back so many good memories from my childhood. I love my grandpa so much!” said Megan.

Megan left her grandfather’s home at 5.30am to head off to work, but the early wake-up time did not deter the grandfather from seeing her off.

“I am thankful for my grandpa and he will never understand how much love he truly has shown me,” said Megan. “And more importantly, the love he showed my grandma while she was alive. I believe in love and loyalty because of this man. He is my hero.”
