Police hunt cowardly carjacker who attacked elderly man with a hammer

Trouble began when a man, who is believed to be in his 20s, knocked on the elderly man’s door and asked him for a lift.

The elderly man agreed to help and the pair then hopped into his car and began their trip, but then things turned ugly.

The young man began assaulting the elderly victim with a hammer as he was driving, causing the elderly driver to crash his car into an unoccupied taxi that was parked in Stuart Road, South Plympton.

CCTV footage from a home that was facing the crash site captured the moment of the crash and the sickening aftermath where the younger man continued his frenzied hammer attack on his elderly victim.

The attacker, who is believed to be in his 20s, is described as being caucasian with a shaved head and a dark beard. He was last seen wearing a black long sleeve shirt, black Adidas tracksuit pants, white sneakers and a red bum-bag.

The victim’s missing car is a white 2011 Ford XR sedan, with registration plates S581AKT.
