Responsible Care – leading the way to support our elders

Australia’s ageing population is growing and getting more tech-savvy. The number of Australians aged 65 and over is expected to increase rapidly, from around 2.5 million in 2002 to 6.2 million in 2042. And research has shown that grandparents are the fastest growing demographic on social media.

In this technological age, more and more people are looking online for reviews, particularly in aged care. With 90% of consumers placing their trust in peer recommendations, there’s a vital need for transparency.

ACRC leading the way to give seniors greater choice, control and transparency

Aged Care Report Card (ACRC) has launched an online review platform, which gives the consumer first hand insight into the quality and care levels of a range of aged care providers and services they are looking into. The reviews are from consumers who have had first hand experience with the facility, usually the family of a loved one who is in care.

Reinvigorating the core principles of UN Principles for Older People

ACRC is calling on leading senior care providers delivering the care with its launch of the Responsible Care campaign which has been inspired by the United Nation’s (UN’s) Principles for Older Persons. Responsible Care is the commitment of aged care providers and services to work together to ensure that they provide excellence in care, striving to work above the minimum standard of supporting all older people.

Providers who sign up, or make a pledge, for responsible care are showing older people and their families that they are a committed to championing responsible care. This includes government bodies and representatives, not for profit care providers, private care provider organisations, agencies and services, peak bodies and individual industry leaders.

Each provider who commits also gets a ‘pledge badge’ on their ACRC listing, enabling consumers to see which providers have committed to being engaged, transparent and open to reviews.

Leading By Example: Calling on Leading Care Providers

This campaign is a collaborative approach for positive change to pursue excellence. Through building and ecosystem of trusted providers and services, ACRC hope to help older people and their families easily identify responsible care providers and remove some of the difficulties associated in finding quality aged care.

Responsible Care is the commitment of aged care providers and services to work together to ensure that they provide excellence in care, striving to work above the minimum standard of supporting all older people.

The ACRC Principles of Responsible Care have been developed with two main philosophies in mind; the importance of Responsible Care and the importance of Quality Care.
