There will be a futuristic fresh face in many aged care homes with a new partnership bringing innovative robotic technology to residential care so older people can enjoy the benefits of next-gen companion robots.

Sure, it might sound like something from The Jetsons or even I, Robot, but Abi certainly isn’t just a character on the screen.

With her multicoloured limbs and surprisingly expressive eyes, Abi stands out from the crowd, providing a new way for people to connect and find comfort in the midst of difficult situations.

Medical & Aged Care Group, a leading Victorian provider, has partnered with Andromeda, Abi’s creator, to see the talkative, compassionate and intelligent robot introduced to their homes so it can assist and interact with residents.

Grace Brown, Founder and CEO of Andromeda, spearheaded the development of Abi. Abi’s capabilities include providing companionship, assisting with daily activities, and offering support to the caregiving staff, making her an invaluable asset in the day-to-day operations of residential aged-care homes.

Under this partnership, MACG will work closely with Grace Brown and her dedicated team to drive the long-term success of both Abi and Andromeda. MACG hopes to use their expertise and resources to accelerate the development and deployment of Abi, ensuring that more aged-care homes can benefit from this innovative technology.

“We are excited to collaborate with Andromeda and contribute to the advancement of AI in aged care,” said Cameron McPherson CEO of Medical & Aged Care Group.

“Abi represents a significant leap forward in providing personalised care and improving the overall well-being of aged-care residents. We believe this partnership will lead to remarkable outcomes for both our companies and the communities we serve.”

Previous international research revealed that the majority of older people would be comfortable interacting with care robots in their homes or in residential aged care settings.

Plenty of residents already enjoy the benefits of robotic technology in some way, whether it’s in the form of a small cat or dog, or like Abi with her charming personality and surprising quick wit.

MACG added that this strategic partnership underscores a shared commitment to innovation, excellence, and the well-being of aged-care residents.

By combining the strengths of both organisations, MACG and Andromeda, they hope to revolutionise the aged care industry, making a lasting impact on the lives of residents and caregivers alike.
