Granny’s rules for her funeral include getting drunk and ‘Bertha isn’t invited’

A 92-year-old woman has laid out some hilarious demands for her own funeral in a TikTok video that has been viewed more than 15 million times on the social media platform.

The grandmother, known on TikTok as Grandma Droniak, has amassed a following of over 4 million people who enjoy her unique brand of sassy life advice and the recounted tails of her life as a single 92-year-old woman.

In one of her latest videos, Grandma Droniak shared three strict rules that she would like those organising her funeral arrangements to abide by.

The grandmother then went on to list her three stipulations as follows:

  • “You can cry, but don’t cry too much. Don’t make a fool of yourself.”
  • “Bertha is not invited. Don’t let her in.”
  • “And you better get drunk afterward. Take a shot for me.”

In the comment thread underneath Grandma Droniak’s video, she also encouraged patrons at her funeral to get drunk “during” the memorial service instead of waiting until after proceedings.

In the caption of the video, Grandma Droniak added that her funeral “won’t be any time soon” but urged those around her not to forget her words.

The 92-year-old’s rise to internet fame is part of an ongoing trend of seniors who have embraced social media platforms throughout the pandemic and carved out a niche in the youthful space for themselves.

This small sub-genre of elderly, female internet sensations – known online as ‘gran-fluencers’ – have captured the hearts and minds of TikTok enthusiasts with a mix of wholesome life advice and blunt storytelling.

Grandma Droniak has also promised her fans that she will soon create a video that outlines why “Bertha” is not a welcome guest at her funeral.
