How smarter scheduling can increase home care worker satisfaction

Additionally, recent COVID vaccination requirements for frontline workers have forced organisations to rapidly replace staff in a highly competitive labour market and to make their existing workforce more efficient than ever before.

The aged care industry is particularly susceptible. A recent workforce report found one in five aged care workers intend to resign within a year, with stress, increased workload and too much paperwork amongst the top reasons for leaving.

The pressure is on for providers to ensure their staff members are happy and supported in their roles.

Home care companies have an added challenge: managing a mobile workforce that experiences the stress of constant travel, complex schedules and extra paperwork.

Tech makes life easier for mobile care workers

Recent advances in cloud-based technology have created efficiencies for care workers on the go, improving their experience of work.

One such innovator is Skedulo: a smart scheduling tool that makes it easy to organise and oversee an entire deskless workforce on a single platform, especially for those who work in the field.

Skedulo’s powerful mobile app, originally created for the care sector, creates optimised schedules according to resource, location or client. Care workers and nurses can start their shifts closer to home and create a route, using a built-in navigation feature, that is geographically practical for them.

Workplace efficiency drives happiness

Being more efficient at work ultimately enables nurses and care workers to spend less time on the road and more time on people.

In a workforce highly motivated by a passion for caring and relationships with clients and their families, providing ways to focus on providing service, rather than logistics and paperwork, leads to higher levels of job satisfaction.

Technology also enables employees to achieve a better work life balance, helping them streamline processes to save time, spend less hours on the road and remove unnecessary stressors from the job. This not only leads to better retention, but is a key pillar for attracting quality candidates in the care industry.

Skedulo also delivers business benefits for aged care businesses in a competitive, customer-centric marketplace.

The platform allows providers to accurately track the time spent working in the field, making it easy to gain greater oversight of a provider’s workforce and how the business is performing, while equipping staff with the insights and resources they need to deliver the best level of care.

Skedulo also integrates with existing integrations, so managers can send timesheet data captured by the platform to payroll, or use Skedulo to forecast labour costs using data from their HR system.

Providers can also reduce paperwork and create cost savings by keeping digital records that support audit trails for compliance and regulation.

  1. Sounds innovative but do most staff want to work anywhere? They often love the staff they work with and if management is fair and helpful why would you go somewhere you are not happy going to? For some it will be good especially if you are new to the industry, but the novelty may wear off if the place of residence is not a happy one. It also looks like all the hard arrangements are placed onto the low paid staff. AGAIN! If there was true competitiveness in the Aged Care sector would it not be fair to say that dollars speak loud and clear but I don’t see wages going up if competition in the industry was serious about keeping staff.
