Pregnant woman who wants help from elderly parents gets called-out online

For perhaps the first time in history, the internet is united in opinion after a mum-to-be asked Reddit users if she was wrong for requesting that her parents come to town to help her care for a newborn, but also expecting them to pay for a hotel to stay in so that she could have some space.

In her post on Reddit’s notorious AITA forum, the young mother revealed that she is currently living in a home that her parents sold to her at below the market value.

In doing so, the mother and her parents made an agreement that the elderly couple – who now live in another state – could come and stay with her whenever they visited.

According to the mum-to-be, this arrangement had been working well up until now.

With the impending arrival of her baby, the woman reached out to her mother with some requests.

“I was talking to my mom about the birth and I brought up that I would like her to be in town when I give birth and to stay for a few weeks after,” she explained.

“I’d love for my parents to come here and help around the house, with the baby, offer me the emotional support I know I’m going to need.”

The mum-to-be revealed that her mother was initially very excited about the prospect of taking the trip out to help support her and assist in caring for her new grandchild.

However, the soon-to-be-grandmother’s excitement began to diminish when her daughter revealed a stunning stipulation to the offer of coming to visit.

She then went on to explain that she was hoping that her parents would be willing to fly out and stay in a hotel or Airbnb so that she, her husband and the new baby could have some privacy.

Seemingly, the mum-to-be was also expecting her parents to pay for their own hotel for a few weeks.

“I just don’t want them in the house, but I do want them in town,” she said.

“I feel a little sad that they are putting money above me and their grandson.”

Understandably, the soon-to-be grandparents were disappointed by the news, citing the costs of renting a place to stay as an issue.

While the mum-to-be may have initially been unsure if she being unreasonable to make these demands to her mother, the response from people commenting on her post will have left her with no doubt about the public consensus.

‘Wanting support is understandable, but if you want them near but not at your home you need to pay for it. It’s unreasonable to ask them to foot the bill,’ one of the commenters wrote.

“Sadly you can’t have your cake and eat it, too.

What do you think, HelloCare readers? Do you agree that the mum-to-be’s request was out of line? Or should her parents be willing to pay for their own hotel to provide the new family with some space?

  5. She sounds like a very selfish Cow. Her parents sold her the house cheaper so they could stay when they come to visit. But it is very rude to expect her parents now to pay n stay elsewhere n run after there selfish daughter. If I was the parents I would tell her thanks but no thanks. We have done enough for you n we now can’t afford to pay extra at a hotel. You the daughter are very selfish n lazy. Get your husband to help out after all it is his baby.
