An aged care worker James Ng’Ang’A Irungu will remain behind bars until sentencing after admitting to indecently assaulting a male aged care resident aged in his 80s.

The 27-year-old from Marangaroo had been charged with three counts of indecently dealing with an incapable person on March 23, just a day after the disturbing incidents unfolded in an aged care home in the Perth suburb of Claremont.

During the court proceedings, Irungu’s lawyer, Andrew Guy, acknowledged the severity of the offences, stating that they had all occurred within a mere 20-minute timeframe. Irungu appeared via videolink from Hakea Prison where he pleaded guilty to all three charges.

Despite pleas for bail, Irungu was remanded in custody.

Police investigations revealed that Irungu was employed by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and worked at various aged care facilities across the metropolitan area, raising concerns about the safety and welfare of vulnerable individuals under his care.

Irungu will be sentenced on June 7 at the District Court of WA.
